Tiny’s Tavern is your official sports bar for the Green Bay Packers,
the Boise State Broncos, and the University of Wisconsin Badgers, or so says the web site for Tiny’s Tavern, which is located at 4745 Voltaire St in Ocean Beach http://www.tinystavernsd.com .
What makes Tiny’s a sports bar? Two things lead one to conclude this is a major league sports bar: the 32 TVs hanging; and the fact that this really is a neighborhood dive bar. It does not offer hard stuff, so pitchers of beer and sports on TV that’s where it’s at. They offer very good food and it’s a large menu. Plus they are very casual and really friendly. One can attend the party here and you’ll feel welcome even without being an insider.
I have always enjoyed O.B. with its serious community spirit. They are quite political but you need not debate. They are quite civic minded but you need not participate. And when you elect not to join in on debates and other peoples causes, it’s okay with them. There’s a live and let live attitude at this beach.
They have games a plenty. Shuffle board, pinball, pool tables, foosball, that trivia network game and some game with a track ball. They carry way too many beers for one man to try in one visit. You may even take your dog in with you and I’m not talking just on their patio.
They keep nice hours, Monday – Friday 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 a.m. and weekends 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 a.m. with the kitchen open until midnight daily and everything is available from the menu not just breakfast at breakfast hours.
There are plenty of specials including free pool on Thursdays. They have specials on food daily. I will return just to eat their pasta chica which is angel hair pasta with blackened chicken, garlic, diced tomatoes, and a chicken-based sauce. It’s absolutely wonderful.
If you’re local, you probably already know Tiny’s. If you’re not from O.B. then take any Sunday or Monday night football day and go to Tiny’s for a day at the beach. You can take the dog to the dog park or dog beach, then eat at Tiny’s and enjoy beers and the game. You’ll like it I’m sure.
