Claim Jumper in Grossmont Center, at 5500 Grossmont Center Dr is certainly keeping up with modern times. I’m talking prices here. It’s just that I’m not used to the high prices of our current decade (2011) http://www.claimjumper.com/menu_seafood.aspx and they say inflation has yet to rear its ugly head! Nancy and I ate lunch at this location over the weekend and I hadn’t eaten at Claim Jumper’s for years. Inside is very nice with an historic theme including the checkers set up in the lobby for a game while you wait for your table. The staff was absolutely friendly and attentive.
I ordered the stuffed Baked Potato, with ‘spicy’ blackened chicken… per the web it’s as follows ‘Giant baked potato stuffed with charbroiled or blackened chicken and roasted vegetables topped with melted cheddar & jack cheese. Drizzled with creamy alfredo sauce 11.99’, while Nancy went with the simple fish and chips – ‘ Fish & Chips*
Hand-breaded in beer-batter, served with homemade tartar sauce and salt & pepper shoestring fries 14.99’. I added a small Caesar salad – Caesar Salad
Crisp romaine tossed with aged parmesan, cornbread croutons and creamy Caesar dressing 4.49’ and Nancyadded a small dinner salad ‘House Salad Tomatoes, mushrooms, carrots, jack & cheddar cheese, diced egg, crisp bacon & cornbread croutons 4.49. Add to that one iced tea and one lemonade and for these pleasures I was blessed with a bill of just about $42.00. “We should have gone to Carl’s” is what I heard inside my head. The food was typical chain production food. The potato was good but the chicken was a bit dry. I liked the toppings and it was the size of a house so absolutely filling. Nancy’s fish was more about the beer batter. Heavy on batter lite on the fish (which tasted good enough just not enough of it). This seems high for a nice lunch?
These are the times that try man’s soul. Don’t you know? I suspect this will be a resounding theme of the next decade. The trouble is there are too many folks with wallets reflecting the year 1975. And it’s getting worse… I hear they want to cut the pay of the retail clerks in SoCal right now. Oh the divide between rich and poor grows! I guess I’ll need to start looking for bargain eateries to provide a truly great service here.
